Light Shall Shine Out Of Darkness
a glee fanfiction written by bloodredcherries

Summary: It turned out that Finn Hudson wasn't meant for the military after all, though he would have preferred this discovery coming about before he shot himself in the leg while that bomb went off. But he can't remember the bomb, just the leg, so he doesn't understand why he has come home a war hero. Or why he came home at all.

Finn should have died that day. He nearly did die, Instead, he lived, and was patched up as best they could and sent back to his Bushwick loft, to his pregnant wife, a bum knee, a PTSD diagnosis, and the Cold War of the Hummel-Andersons. (Passive-aggressive, thy name is Blaine). And why is Brittany the most normal of them all?

Finn was supposed to die that day. How is he supposed to deal with the fact that he lived?

This work of fiction was brought to you by a desire to complete all the tables in [personal profile] luxken27 's 2016 Summer Mini Challenge that somehow took on a life of its own. Oops?

Chapter Summary: "It's not the show," Kurt replied, voice sounding strained. "Though I am typically not a fan of the Fox Network, in this moment, they are annoying me far less than the reason of which I am annoyed."

"Blaine," he said, flatly. "He's bein' a dou--," Finn cut himself off, sensing a lecture on his choice of words in his future, "he's making you angry."

Warnings: Contains potentially triggering descriptions of PTSD. Language. Scenes of a sexual nature.
Chapter Summary: Finn Hudson didn't sing anymore. In fact, if you asked most people, including Finn Hudson himself, the list of things that Finn could successfully do in his current state were very few and far between. He felt like such a loser. He'd barely even finished three fourths of a tour, and the Army had still fucked him up.

Paring: Finn Hudson/Rachel Berry
Rating: PG
Warnings: Finn is alive
Word count: 563
Summary: "Forgive you for what?," Finn asked, trying to maintain his cool, despite the fact that his girlfriend's line of questioning was reminding him of Quinn and having and losing Drizzle and singing to sonograms and his heart being smashed to pieces thanks to his best friend sleeping with his girlfriend. "'s mine, right?," he asked, becoming momentarily quite interested in his lap.

I have been struggling with writer's block for a prolonged period of time, so when I saw the comment posted on one of my Sweet Valley High fics ( [personal profile] luxken27 's gift fic that I really need to continue, to be specific) proudly proclaiming that the commenter had a really good story prompt and would I consider writing it, I made the error of asking what the prompt was.

I should have known better. I do know better. And yet the following actually surprised me. I guess I am just used to the well written prompts on [community profile] stoneybrook and other such sites.

I had hopes that the prompts would be workable, at least. However...

Title: Lies
Fandom: Sweet Valley High
Rating: T+
Chapter: Prologue/30

Sam Woodruff initially lives through the car accident he and Elizabeth Wakefield get into after junior prom and inadvertently implicates her -- and not Jessica -- as the initial cause. This has disastrous consequences.

Canon through SVH #94.

Lies came about after I wrote Luxken27 a SVH snippet for fandom_stocking. I had intended at the time for it to stand alone as a double drabble-ish work but both my rereading of the canon for the original piece combined with my irritation at how the storyline in SVH plays out and my desire for more SV fic on AO3 and FF.Net and in general led to me deciding to write a multichapter fix fic.

This is what I gifted Luxken27:

"I understand what you're going through," Steven said after a moment, eying Jessica with worried eyes. "And, I'm sorry about Sam."

Her aquamarine eyes flashed with anger -- or maybe irritation, Steven wasn't quite sure -- but he doggedly persevered.

"I lost someone that I loved too," he reminded Jessica, perhaps a bit forcibly than needed. "Remember Tricia?"

Tricia, Steven thought ruefully, running his hands through his hair. The first woman he had ever loved, who had been cruelly taken away from him by her terminal cancer. He could still remember her kisses, the feeling of her hair against his bare skin...everything. It had nearly killed him when she'd died.

"Your own sister didn't kill her," Jessica spat, a flash of nervousness briefly visible in her eyes. "You can't possibly understand."

In Sweet Valley High #94 A Night to Remember, Jessica inadvertently causes her longtime boyfriend Sam Woodruff’s death in a car accident when she allows her sister Elizabeth to get drunk off of punch that has been spiked with -- no lie -- half a cup of vodka. Elizabeth is arrested on an involuntary manslaughter charge and is given a sham of a trial in #97 The Verdict. After #97, the series takes a course into absolute insanity by giving the twin sisters an “evil twin”, instead of at the very least making an attempt to treat the repercussions of 96-97 with any bit of realism or dignity.

Therefore, Lies is my attempt at remedying this situation.

In Lies, Jessica’s original actions are more dire than in canon. She spikes the punch with multiple bottles of liquor after she is rejected as Prom Queen and causes a three car crash which has multiple injuries and fatalities. Elizabeth and the driver of the first car [who will be revealed later] are mostly uninjured and booked in on charges.

Sam accidentally implicates Elizabeth as the source of the alcohol due to confusion about who his girlfriend was. Jessica is all too willing to let her sister take the blame, especially because she has realized the rather poor life choice that she made out of spite. There are no evil twins.

I have been remarkably lax in my fandom activity lately -- to the point where I am more than a little bit embarrassed. I meant to get around to writing [and completing] more [community profile] fandom_stocking fic but my very ill behaved muse and my proclivity to lengthiness managed to naughtily conspire to not ensure proper timeliness and behavior. Apparently I am incapable of writing anything vaguely resembling brief. Nonetheless, I hope [personal profile] luxken27 and [personal profile] ozqueen liked their snippets [the SV one was supposed to stand alone, my muses disagree]. It's a rather dreary stormy day here so I hope that I will continue to be inspired to write as a result.

-- I now officially have a completely accurate and current babysitters100 table here on my DW and I have completed 24/100 prompts. Hopefully by the end of the year I will have made it to 30. Ideally I would like to make it to the 50 prompt mark but I do not wish to get ahead of myself.

-- Going through my WIP folder I have WIPs in the following fandoms: Sweet Valley, BSC, Harry Potter, Cheers, and Everybody Loves Raymond. My 2016 goal is to go through them and decide whether to salvage/finish/discard.

-- I hope to be on here more and utilize DW more. I am going to do a clean out of the journal in regards to uncommented and redundant entries.

Hope everyone had a good 2015.

SUMMARY: Companion to Undone. Ray broods.

"You're still worried about Ma?," Ray asked Debra in bed that night, stroking her side as he did. "Maybe she's just quiet now."

He heard a heavy sigh in response. "Ray, it's your mother," she murmured, eyes shut, face pressed against her pillow. "She's never quiet. Ever since your father died she just sits there."

"She doesn't even complain about my cooking, you know how much she hates that. I just think that she needs help dealing with your father's death."

Ray didn't say a word, he simply pulled her closer to him, not wanting to let go.

"Tell me a story," he said in response. "A good one that you would tell the kids so they don't have bad dreams."

"You want a bedtime story?," she asked, peering blearily up at him. "You're having bad dreams?"

"Yeah," he said. "I dream of it. Of not being able to do anything. Of seeing him like that."

"Oh, honey...," she breathed, looking up at him with sad eyes. "You know you did your best, right?"

Ray silently shook his head. She clucked lightly in response.

"I'll tell you one story," she sighed. "One, that's it. And after we'll go to bed."

SUMMARY: Marie grieves.

It's a testament to how much Marie's world has been rocked that she leans on Debra. But Frank is dead -- actually really truly dead -- and who else does she have? Lee and Stan moved down to Florida years ago, Amy and Robbie have moved to Pennsylvania -- of all places, and it's certainly not like she can speak to Alda about this, so Debra wins by default.

They don't really talk much. Marie doesn't talk much at all. Silence is preferable to realizing that she will never hear one of Frank's remarks in response again.

She really did love him. Even though they fought.

And then one morning she woke up and he wasn't there with a sarcastic comment about goop on her face or making him a sandwich. He was laying there, struggling to speak, to breathe.

She doesn't remember much of that day. She supposes she's blocked it out.

She wishes she could find comfort in the fact that he went relatively quickly, but she can't. There is no comfort.

There's just coffee and lemon chicken and silence.

SUMMARY: Yet again, Ray curses his father.

"Daddy, come on," Ally insisted, pulling on Ray's hand. "I wanna go to the Happy Zone."

Ray bit back a sigh. Why hadn't his stupid father gotten his license renewed? Why was this now his job?

"Daddy has to write his column," he said gently, not anticipating the widening eyes and the sudden, suspicious, presence of tears. "Aw, come on, Ally. Don't start that."

"But I wanna go!," she screeched, causing everyone congregated in the living room watching the game to turn and stare at them. "We always go. It's not fair!"

"Come on, Ray," his lovely wife -- of course it was his lovely wife -- said. "It's just a few hours."

Ray sighed. Heavily. He knew when he was defeated.

"Just a few hours?," he asked. "Just a few hours of painful fun zone?"

WARNINGS: Mentions exotic dancing

SUMMARY: Robert meets his first wife.

Robert really wasn't sure what he was doing here. Strip joints weren't his thing. Bachelor parties weren't his thing. Spending his night carousing wasn't his thing. But Raymond was getting married to perfect wonderful Debra and their mother had insisted that Robert join the pre-wedding celebrations.

It hadn't been worth more than a token protest. What Raymond wanted, he got, and what Ma wanted, she got, and no one ever had any consideration for Robbie's feelings, so he just dealed.

The exotic dancer was certainly an attractive woman, he noted, with long red hair, almost the color of rubies. It was a shame that she was giving Raymond more attention that he certainly did not need.

And so, Robert stewed, nursing his adult beverage. He really should have taken that extra shift at work, he thought, sighing at Gianni and Kevin's rather juvenile behavior.

Why hadn't he taken that extra shift at work? Ah, yes, Judy. She had thought he was working too hard, needed to take a break. Busting up perps was more enjoyable than this.

That was when -- in the middle of plotting his escape -- the exotic dancer caught his eye and winked at him. Women didn't wink at Robert. They could maybe laugh at his jokes or consider him a friend, but to call him unlucky in love was an understatement.

And there he was, being winked at by a woman named Cinnamon. He didn't know whether to laugh or cry.

He suspected this development would annoy Raymond though, and decided that alone would make it worthy of pursuit.

Cinnamon. Cinnamon the exotic dancer with the ruby red hair.

Title: Clock
Fandom: Harry Potter
Universe: Post DH
Rating: K
Warning: None
Word Count: 115

Fred's hand on the clock was resting at home, even though he hadn't been at the Burrow for years. It still made Molly's heart ache to see it.

Home meant something different now for Fred, and she loathed that. She loathed that Fred's home was with Gideon and Fabian and not on earth with his family. Frankly, she wished she had died instead of him. And Molly knew that was a selfish thought.

The clock was an all too painful reminder of what she had lost. All she had lost.

All the times she had complained about their joke business -- she'd at least thought that they would be safe.

That they would come home.
