Fanfic Year in Review 2011

Fanfic Year in Review- 2011-via [personal profile] bookplayer

Fic total:
Umm...well, I had my big SV fic “A Lesson Learned in Time”-up to chapter 112; my smaller SV fics “Life Goes On”, “Something About This Place”, “Three Seconds to Say ‘I Love You’”, and my completed fic “No More Broken Promises”. I wrote a oneshot for “Everybody Loves Raymond” and 9 stories for Babysitters100. So that brings the total to 15.

Overall impressions:
I think that I was successful with my writing this year, I had been wanting to write in some different fandoms, so my writing the ELR oneshot was not a total waste of time, and I have been enjoying writing in the BSC fandom.

Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?
About what I predicted. I tend to be very active in the fandoms I choose.

What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January?
Probably Richard/Sharon. Hard though this may be to believe, as they are the main pairing in my BSC stories, but I really enjoyed them in my reread of the series, whereas as a kid I preferred the sitters.

Oh, and Elizabeth/Bruce, Jessica/Todd, and Steven/Aaron. Blech. SVC tried to ruin my fond childhood memories lol.

What's your own favorite story of the year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you happiest?

Dawn gets two moms, which has no comments on it. Upon reflection, picking the holidays as the time to post a story about Sunny’s mom dying, (and the issues with LJ), probably didn’t help. But I really enjoyed challenging myself to write in the CD format.

Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them?

Yes, I did. I ended a story that was going positively nowhere in SV-in fact, it’s not on the list of my fanfics that I consider stories I’ve written anymore...also joining babysitters100 was a huge risk for me, but I have felt that it was a positive one, and I am really enjoying it.

From my past year of writing, what was...

My best story of this year:
“A Lesson Learned in Time” and “For A Second Time”

My most popular story of this year:

Umm I think my SV ones have been pretty popular, but my BSC ones have been popular as well.

Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion:

“Dawn Gets to Have Two Moms”

Most fun story to write:
Story with the single sexiest moment:

Oh, in “A Lesson Learned in Time”, Steven and Billie have sex in his office.

Most "Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story:

Oh dear, the story I am trying to forget. Let’s just say it was a bit close to the truth for comfort...

Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters:

I think that “California” was the one that really shifted my perception of Sharon.

Hardest story to write and Biggest Disappointment:
The one based off SVC “Life Goes On”-I broke Steven and Aaron up and put him back with Billie, but writing scenes with Jessica and Todd as a married couple and Liz and Bruce together seems so wrong to me. I have figured a way to make it work, though.

Oh, and I thought that the ELR fic I wrote would have gotten at least one comment on fanfiction.net.

Biggest surprise:

Hmm...that I have all these ideas for Richard/Sharon and I wasn’t expecting that to happen when I started the prompts.

Most Unintentionally Telling Story:

The story about Karen, it reminded me of my childhood, though mine wasn’t quite as “Karen-like”!

Resolutions:

  1. Finish ALLIT and write sequel. Also work on other SV stories.
  2. Write more Richard/Sharon fic, including the multipart story I’m working on.
  3. Write more fic about other BSC characters-sitters, clients, other parents, etc.
  4. Refresh myself on canon for both SV and BSC/LS/CD/KIMCC
