About Me

Welcome to my dreamwidth journal. My name is Maria, and I have been around in various fandoms in various capacities starting in 2002, when I discovered the website There's Something About Sweet Valley Senior Year (there's something about my fics there being lost to time is more like it) & I have been a participate in varying fandoms & manners since. From message boards to Fanfiction.Net to Livejournal & settling on AO3 and DW/IJ PSLs, I am familiar with it all & may have encountered you in a past life (so to speak). I was previously known by the handle bloodredcherries (later lovelyflowersin) and am now known on AO3 as a duchessandaprince.

I do not post much in my DW (but I am trying to get more active) however from an internet safety perspective, I only follow 18+ journals & prefer that only 18+ journals follow me.

I live in the Greater Boston area where I am struggle bussing my way through life (going to school again in the fall for my Paralegal degree). I am disabled. I enjoy watching BC Eagles football & hockey and am a fair weather fan of our professional sports teams. I was once a centrist but have been leaning more and more left as time goes by, that being said, my only request is that my followers are not Trump supporters. You can be a Republican, I cannot stand that man. Recovering Catholic. I am owned by two cats: their names are Cosmo (a tortie) and Wanda (a diluted calico) & they are sisters. I am a pansexual demisexual individual who goes by she/her pronouns. I have hopes of becoming a professional writer but do not expect to become fiscally solvent on my publications.

I am willing to write gen fic in the setting of the Netflix show, but, as an adult, I do not feel comfortable writing shipfic (unless it is between consenting adults). Canon pairings are fine, feel free to write them and prompt them, but I dislike what Riverdale did after season 2 and cherrypick what items are included. I enjoy AUs. I prefer Alice/FP & the kids as a happy family. Pairings that I enjoy reading & writing about include: Jughead Jones/Veronica Lodge, Archie Andrews/Jughead Jones, Betty Cooper/Veronica Lodge, Betty Cooper/Archie Andrews, Alice Cooper/FP Jones II

Glee (TV): Fandom Specific DNW: NOAH PUCKERMAN OR HIS PORTRAYER. See the entry in Riverdale about AUs. I do not think I have ever written a truly canon Glee fic. Pairings that I enjoy reading & writing about include: Finn Hudson/Quinn Fabray, Finn Hudson/&Kurt Hummel, Kurt Hummel & Brittany Pierce, Carole Hudson/Chris Hudson (you see where the AU comes in).

Everybody Loves Raymond (TV): I know, I know, Patricia Heaton in her current form makes me despair beyond all measure, but I have a soft spot for my beloved CBS sitcom and just...don't write fic set in the present. Pairings that I enjoy reading & writing about include: Debra Barone/Ray Barone & general Barone family dynamics. I don't ship the kids with anyone and will write Robert/Amy and Frank/Marie, they just aren't my great loves.

Friends (TV): Fandom Specific DNW: Ross/Rachel. I only ship Joey Tribbiani/Rachel Green.

Sweet Valley (books): Fandom Specific DNW: Sweet Valley Confidential & The Sweet Life: This is the fandom where I first published (now mercifully lost to time) fic. I admit that it is hard to find the impetus to write in this fandom since it is so dead on ao3, alas, I persevere. Fandom Snowflake Day 2: Goals

Day 2 - In your own space, set yourself some goals for the coming year. They can be fannish or not, public or private.

Participate more presently in threesentenceficathon than I did last year. I forgot that the comm had started until it was nearly at the end and I would like to be more interspersed from the beginning, both with prompting and filling other people's prompts.
Finish at least one WIP, whether it is published or unpublished
Work on at least one piece of Original fiction in the hopes that a completed first draft is feasible by the end of the calendar year.
Find a full time job and accept the likelihood that said full time job will probably be a day shift.
Elect to not participate in exchanges because they are entirely too stressful -- picking up a pinch hit is fine as long as I know I can write it.
Fill at least three more spots on my babysitters100 table.
Attend all 12 meetings of my cousin's silent book club -- already attended the January one.

This year, I am (belatedly) participating in the 2024 snowflake_challenge here on DW.

Fandoms that I currently consume and produce works in:

The Baby Sitters Club (main & peripheral series). I have an ongoing babysitters100 table that is found here, which I have been working on since I believe 2012? Somewhere around there. Of course, I have been involved in fandom since I was a small child. BSC (and Sweet Valley) were the first fanfictions that I wrote, even before I knew what fanfiction was.

The Baby Sitters Club (TV 2020). I have written some stories in this universe. I have not seen the second season yet as I am in between my netflix subscriptions (how I wish that they would release it on DVD) but I am aware of the season's content.

Harry Potter (books). I certainly don't agree with what JKR did either with the bones of a decent story or with her IRL thoughts that she insists on inflicting upon society, however, I don't see why that precludes me from taking her universe and turning it into things that she would absolutely hate. I have been reading HP fiction since around 2002/3 but only started writing this in earnest over the last couple of years.

British Royalty RPF. I mainly write AU stories that do not coexist well with reality. The majority of my stories take place in AU versions of the 1970s-2000s. I have one story based in 2016 that I most likely will never finish.

Fandoms that I occasionally visit:

Riverdale, Sweet Valley, Friends, Everybody Loves Raymond, Glee

You will see me partake in these fandoms (and more) on occasion, especially during things like exchanges or threesentenceficathon but most likely you will not see active works of progress in many of them. The potential exceptions are Glee and Riverdale, though it is difficult to get myself excited about taking on a multi-chapter fic when I seem to be the sole person writing my pairings (FP/Alice and Finn/Quinn).

Fandom that I can no longer write in:

The Beatles: I wrote Paul/Linda stories in this fandom until one of my commenters wouldn't stop engaging with me on tumblr (it became an uncomfortable social experience that I couldn't gracefully extract myself from without finally just blocking her). It soured me on the entire thing and when I saw she was updating her own story I simply orphaned the works.
